Welcome to Safety Switch Testing Brisbane

What is a Safety Switch ? why do we need to bother ?

RCD Testing Brisbane
A functional Safety Switch is literally an electrical wiring device that disconnects a circuit whenever it detects that the electric current is not balanced between the energized conductor and the return neutral conductor. Such an imbalance may indicate current leakage through the body of a person who is grounded and accidentally touching the energized part of the circuit. If you don't have an installed safety switch a lethal shock can result from these conditions. Safety Switch's are designed to disconnect quickly enough to prevent injury caused by such shocks. They are not intended to provide protection against overcurrent (overload) or short-circuit conditions.
In Short - They Save Lives

How Often Do I Need To Conduct Safety Switch Testing?

Manufactures of Safety Switches advise testing the Safety Switch using their integral test button once every month. This helps to ensure that the mechanisms which enables quick disconnection of supply isn't going to become stuck (a problem which regularly occurs near beach areas (South East Queensland).

The Australian Standard AS:3760 states, for residential use, that Safety Switches be tested with their integral test button once every 6 months, and also the operating time be measured (with unique test devices) once every 2 years.

Work places are susceptible to far more frequent testing than residential, the frequency depends on the type of the work place.
